This is a common DELF A2 speaking scenario. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to speak about your background, your skills, and why you want the job — clearly and confidently in French.
Why This Scenario Matters for DELF A2
In the DELF A2 exam, you must:
Give a short introduction
Express reasons and preferences
Describe your abilities and experience
A job interview (entretien d’embauche) brings together many of these skills, making it ideal for A2 speaking practice.

Situation: You are in France looking for a job. You have an interview with a company director.
Your Goal: Introduce yourself and talk about why you want the job (your motivations).

Introduce yourself with basic personal information

Explain why you are interested in a job (using basic reasons)

Step by Step Guide
Step 1: The Polite Start & Basic Introduction (30 seconds)
Start strong with good manners and give your basic information.
What to say first:
“Bonjour Monsieur/Madame. Merci de me recevoir.”
(Hello. Thank you for meeting with me.)
Then introduce yourself simply:
“Je m’appelle [Your Name].”
(My name is [Your Name].)
“Je suis [Your Nationality].”
(I am [Your Nationality].)
“J’habite en France depuis [time period].”
(I have lived in France for [time period].)
Example time periods:
“quelques mois” (a few months)
“six mois” (six months)
“un an” (one year)
Step 2: Talk About Your Background (30-45 seconds)
Describe what you can do or what you have studied. Keep it very simple!
Option A (If you have work experience):
“Avant, j’ai travaillé comme [job].”
(Before, I worked as a [job].)
Simple jobs you might know:
“serveur/serveuse” (waiter/waitress)
“vendeur/vendeuse” (salesperson)
“étudiant/étudiante” (student)
“caissier/caissière” (cashier)
Option B (If you’re a student or new worker):
“J’ai étudié [subject].”

Option C (General skills):
“Je sais utiliser un ordinateur.”

Step 3: Explain Your Motivation (30-45 seconds)
This is the most important part! Say WHY you want this job. Use simple, honest reasons.
Use this structure:
“Je veux travailler dans votre entreprise parce que…”
(I want to work in your company because…)
Good A2-level reasons:
“J’aime ce travail.” (I like this kind of work.)
“Je veux apprendre le français au travail.” (I want to learn French at work.)
“Je veux avoir de l’expérience en France.” (I want to have experience in France.)
“Votre entreprise est intéressante.” (Your company is interesting.)
“J’ai besoin d’un travail.” (I need a job.) → This is honest and acceptable at A2!
You can add:
“Je suis motivé/motivée.”
(I am motivated.)
“Je veux travailler dur.”
(I want to work hard.)
Step 4: Answer Questions & End Politely (30 seconds)
The director might ask you 1-2 simple questions. Be ready for these:

“Quelles sont vos qualités ?” (What are your qualities?)
“Je suis ponctuel/ponctuelle.” (I am punctual.)
“Je suis travailleur/travailleuse.” (I am hard-working.)

“Parce que je suis motivé/motivée.” (Because I am motivated.)

End the interview:

Remember: The examiner knows this is A2. They don’t expect perfect French. They want to see you can handle a basic social situation with appropriate language. Be polite, be clear, and show you’re making an effort.
